Social Studies

At the elementary level, students will build an understanding of community as they learn about families, places they live in, different types of jobs, and good citizenship. As students gain an in-depth understanding of what it means to live in a community, they will learn about their cultural heritage, our earth, about the past and our government. Expanding on the theme of communities, students will understand how communities are build, the history of communities, and how communities have governments. At the intermediate level, students will identify the attributes and history of our country’s different regions as they explore their environment, history and economy. The focus shifts to building a deeper understanding of the history of our nation as students explore the history and the story behind the making of the nation. Students then learn about the changes our world has undergone and explore the history of our world. Finally students will develop an understanding of the various cultures and countries that make up our world as they explore physical geography, cultural geography and modern regions.
